JUCE now supports building per-monitor DPI-aware applications on Windows 8.1+, meaning that JUCE applications will scale dynamically with the DPI of the monitor that they are on ensuring crisp UIs on high resolution displays. JUCE has been updated to fully support the new macOS 10.14 Mojave and iOS 12 updates, allowing deployment to the new iPhone XS and XR. None Features: macOS Mojave and iOS 12 support I almost always end up adding some VSL to get a little more detail, especially for the winds.Īnd it is too soon to tell, but the 8Dio winds could fit almost any role.Release Notes Introducing JUCE 5.4 System requirement changes: Quite often the choice between Cinesamples and Chris Hein comes down to the sound, as much as I dislike trying to describe sound, I'd suggest that Cinesamples seems to fit film projects and Chris Hein fits projects intended for live theatre or plain old composition, but I've reversed that more than once, and sometimes layer them together. For pop/funk/rock horns I am still searching, like everyone else it seems. These are my tools for orchestral writing. The Embertone solo winds are just as cool, and if I had the money I'd probably get both, but having started down the 8Dio path I'm sticking with it. As someone else said, a unique tone, and I am getting accustomed to their take on articulations.

VSL SE Vol 1 Winds and Brass for a really dry sound which I really like, and the Vienna Instrument player is really cool.Ĭinesamples Core Brass and Winds - pretty much my starting point, I like the sound and I find their articulation management to be almost naturalĬhris Hein Concert Brass and Concert Winds - Compact versions - kind of the polar opposite in terms of managing articulations, but brilliant, and once I get in that mindset I find it tough to go back to Cinesamples.ĨDio Winds - many I love these, and will be completing the collection later today. One more thought - I've settled on four libraries for each: Here is what I can do, orchestrally-wise, with what I have: I would then add my voice with techniques such as synthesis and other atypical instruments, but I would like a robust orchestral layer. I like to use a wide dynamic range in my arrangements (not a purist of the dynamic of an orchestra though, I can get around some limitations with volume automations). I'm interested in a cinematic vibe, with the ability to write emotional, lyrical passages, as well as more intense dynamics. I was also worried about having to spend a lot of time programming VSL instruments, even though I'm a bit of a nitpicker sometimes.Ībout the music I want to make: yes, I should have mentionned that.

Since I don't really care for the extra saxophones, shouldn't I reach for Woodwinds I instead? I'm not sure about the difference in quality between both, I know the SE is whole-tone sampled

Thank you both for the : Interesting combination! I would grab the full HW Orchestra, while I'm at : Getting the solo instruments and the ensembles would require SE1 + SE2, and the extra articulations seem so useful, that would add up to 284€ + Vienna Key.

I'm running Ableton Live 9.7, Kontakt 5.8.1, Windows 10 64 bits. VSL stuff (but I would much prefer to stay within the Kontakt realm)Īnd I don't think I absolutely need to wait for CSB or SSB or MSB Fluffy Audio Solo Woodwinds + ensemble? + brass? Chris Hein Brass and Winds Complete (not sure about the sound of these) CineBrass + Holywood Gold (I've some mixed feelings about this, but stumbled upon beautiful EWHG demos) CineBrass Core + CineWinds Core + Hollywoodwinds Individual instrument patches (no High Brass/Low Brass) I would like something serious to compliment that, with the following requests: Soundiron APE, Voices of Gaia, Olympus Elements, Mercury Elements, Hyperion Strings Musical Sampling Soaring, Adventure and Trailer StringsĪngry Brass and Carpenter Trombone and other freebies (of course) Komplete 11, including VSL Legacy and other basic libraries I'm on a $500 budget top, which is manageable during BF.

I'm looking for some good orchestral brass and woodwinds libraries for my music.
